In the October edition of the Grapevine there is an interesting article by our very own nature expert Steve Davies on the Sweet (and edible) Chestnut. However, the photo that we used to illustrate his informative article is of the Horse Chestnut (also known as the conker) which is most definitely NOT edible. Here’s a photo of the Sweet Chestnut which has a much pricklier casing:-

We’d like to apologise to Steve who, unlike one of your Grapevine Editors, does actually know his Sweet from his Horse Chestnuts.  We’d also like to make it clear that you should NEVER EVER try eating Horse Chestnuts.
