Malmesbury History Society Talk

From Christina Staff (malmesburyhistorysociety@gmail.com)

Thursday 24th November at 7.30pm
Malmesbury Town Hall – Assembly Room

Dr Diane Lovell
President of Southwestern Oklahoma State University

In 2018 Diane spoke to us movingly of the relationship between the vicar of Malmesbury Abbey the Reverend George Bisset (Vicar 1793 – 1828) and the Lady Catherine Howard, sister to the Earl of Suffolk at Charlton Park.  This relationship as you may remember was documented in the love letters Diane found in a Gloucestershire village.

Now Diane is, she says, excited to reveal to us the information she has found whilst retracing the footsteps of The Reverend George as he conducted missionary work in Ceylon – now Sri Lanka.  George remained vicar of Malmesbury throughout his nine years of absence.

This event will be open to all so do bring your friends and neighbours.  Entrance will be £3.00 on the door (cash only please).

If you have any questions about either of these presentations please contact us at malmesburyhistorysociety@gmail.com

Many thanks
