Parish Council Election

From : Michael Bromley Gardner (mrbg1@outlook.com)

As most will know, the Local Elections are on Thursday 1 May this year.  They include the Wiltshire Council election and the Parish Council election.

Hankerton has 7 seats on the Parish Council, each for a 4-year term.  No doubt many of the current Cllrs, and maybe all of them (we will not know until the names are published on 3 April), will decide to stand again – but that doesn’t mean that any other Hankerton resident may not also stand for election.

If you would like to stand, you should look up the following links – https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/guidance-candidates-parish-council-elections-england/resources-candidates-parish-council-elections-england (this is the Electoral Commission advice for parish council candidates and includes a link to the nomination papers that you would have to fill in) and https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/local-elections-candidates (this is the Wiltshire Council information for candidates).

You will need to hand-deliver your nomination papers to the Wiltshire Council offices in Chippenham (don’t blame Wilts Council for that – it is UK law) by 4pm on 2 April.  Wilts Council recommend that you book an appointment to have your nomination papers checked by them when handing them in – you can find the link for that on the Wilts Council link above.

If you are interested, by all means contact the Parish Clerk (mrbg1@outlook.com) for further advice of any kind, including how to fill in the nomination papers.

Recycling and Refuse

I put three months of the schedule on the website homepage <here>. To be honest it’s partly for me ! A little late this time I’m afraid but normally there if your house echoes to that weekly question “is it recycling tomorrow ?” like ours does !
